Terms of Service

By creating an account or using AlertNaija, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

Who you contract with

  • ALERTNAIJA DIGITAL SOLUTIONS, a business in Nigeria
  • Business name registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigeria. BN 9517386.
  • Trading name: AlertNaija
  • Website: alertnaija.com

1. Not a substitute for emergency services

  • AlertNaija is a community safety layer — not police, ambulance, or fire
  • In a life-threatening emergency, call 112 (Nigeria) or your local number first
  • We don’t guarantee that anyone will respond, or how fast

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old
  • Information you provide must be accurate

3. Your account

4. Acceptable use — don’t

  • False reports or malicious accusations (may also breach Cybercrimes Act §24)
  • Misuse panic, missing-person, or other safety tools
  • Post illegal, hateful, defamatory, or sexual content
  • Upload harmful or sexualised images of children (reported to authorities)
  • Harass, threaten, dox, or impersonate others
  • Name someone as a kidnapper, robber, or person “responsible” for a crime without a court finding
  • Post another person’s photo, name, phone, home, or plate to accuse them
  • Interfere with law enforcement
  • Scrape or reverse-engineer except as allowed by law
  • Resell the Service without written permission

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules.

4a. Community incident reports

AlertNaija is a community safety layer. Reports are user-submitted. They are not findings of guilt.

  • You are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of what you submit — text, photos, voice notes, comments, and tips
  • Describe what you saw: clothing, vehicle colour, direction of travel, how many people. Do not name anyone as a kidnapper, robber, bandit, or person responsible
  • Do not combine a person’s photo, name, plate, phone, or home address with an accusation. That can be defamation, harassment, and a privacy breach
  • Naming a missing person you are looking for is allowed. Naming an alleged perpetrator is not
  • False, defamatory, or harassing reports may be labelled, restricted, removed, and referred to authorities

5. Your content

  • You keep ownership of what you post
  • You grant us a licence to host and show it to operate the Service
  • You’re responsible for accuracy and legality of everything you submit
  • AlertNaija may review, verify, label, restrict, hide, or remove any report or comment — including false, defamatory, harassing, illegal, impersonating, or personal-information content — with or without notice
  • We may keep records needed for safety, appeals, and lawful requests
  • We may remove content under our takedown process

6. Intermediary status

  • We host user-generated content; we don’t pre-check every post
  • We act on lawful removal requests and court orders
  • We cooperate with valid Nigerian law-enforcement requests

7. Partners

  • Some responders and merchants are third parties
  • We may screen and rate them, but we don’t employ them
  • Your deal with a partner is between you and them

8. Payments

  • Many features are free — details at Payments
  • AlertNaija Plus — primary paid product: ₦10,000/year subscription unlocking state alerts and the phone & laptop registry, billed via Paystack once checkout is activated. Cancel anytime; access runs to the end of the paid period. Plans and refund terms at Pricing
  • Refundable Finder Reward — optional purchase when posting a find: payment becomes AlertNaija merchant revenue (not held/earmarked for a third party). Current policy: pay 100% of the purchased amount to a verified finder, or issue a 100% Paystack refund within 30 days (or earlier on request). Cap ₦50,000. Not a prepaid wallet.
  • Marketplace listings: we don’t process buyer–seller payments
  • Refunds: hello@alertnaija.com (include Paystack reference)

9. Privacy

10. Disclaimers

  • Service is provided “as is” and “as available”
  • No warranty of accuracy, fitness, or uninterrupted access

11. Limitation of liability

  • To the max extent allowed by law, ALERTNAIJA DIGITAL SOLUTIONS isn’t liable for indirect or consequential damages from using the Service
  • Nothing here limits liability that Nigerian law says can’t be limited

12. Indemnification

  • You agree to indemnify ALERTNAIJA DIGITAL SOLUTIONS against claims from your breach of these Terms, your content, or unlawful use

13. Termination

  • You may delete your account anytime in Settings
  • We may suspend or terminate for Terms breaches or safety risk
  • Key sections (use rules, disclaimers, liability, indemnity) survive

14. Governing law

  • Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
  • Disputes in competent Nigerian courts

15. Changes

  • We may update these Terms
  • Material changes announced in-app before they apply
  • Continued use means you accept the update
